One of the most challenging issues of our time is the growing number of unemployed youth in Africa. Acquiring the right skills is a key element in tackling this challenge. But how do we ensure these skills match with market demands?

Morning programme
In the morning, we will look at the importance of linking skills training to (labour) market needs. Mr Teshoma Lemma will address the need to close the gap between market demands and skills acquired through TVET institutes. A forum discussion with representatives from the government, private sector and educational sector will challenge your ideas on TVET.
And you will be introduced to the Edukans 7-STEPS tool. Edukans developed this tool to ensure that technical and vocational skills training is customised with input from the market, the trainee and the training provider.
Afternoon programme
In the afternoon, we’ll offer multiple interactive sessions to allow you to experience the value of 7-STEPS yourself. Join the training session on how to define and analyse the labour market, play the 7-STEPS game, learn about what is needed to develop relevant job profiles in our Edukans café, experience the importance having of a good teacher, and/or learn about the opportunities and benefits of monitoring impact. You can choose to attend the sessions that are most relevant to you.
What will you learn?
After attending this day, you will have a deeper understanding of how to link skills training to the labour market, thereby helping youngsters to contribute to their country and society as a whole and stimulating the local economy.
