Giving for Change (GfC)

About the Program

DEC Change the Game program capacitates SHGs, CLAs and farmer’s groups to engage in dialogue with local governments in order to mobilize resources and supports after capacity strengthening through Change the Game Academy (CtGA).

Change the Game Academy (CTGA) is a knowledge platform, powered by the Wilde Ganzen Foundation in the Netherlands. It offers a digital portal and face to face training on local fundraising and Mobilizing support (lobby and advocacy) in low and middle-income countries, with the aim of influencing decision-making affecting grassroots level organizations, their beneficiaries, and their work.

The change the Game program aims to contribute to the eradication of poverty by strengthening the capacity of the CBOs and NGOs, to enable them to effectively Mobilize Supports from all concerned stakeholders, raise funds, support the organizations, to attain financial sustainability, in the long run as well as create an enabling environment for their activities in the various sectors that they engaged in. CSO and Community Based Organizations like Self-help Groups (SHGS), Farmers Associations and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are targeted in Ethiopia to achieve better results. 

Objective

The overall objective of the project is to enhance freedom of speech (both as a means and an end) by amplifying community voices claiming their rights towards power-holders through community philanthropy, with the support of other state and societal actors.
There are three specific objectives/domains of the project:

  1. Giving for Change project aims to unlock the collective power of local communities, represented by Civil Society Actors (CSAs) to express their opinion through community philanthropy CSAs: community organizations, movements, informal groups and human rights defenders).
  2. Giving for Change project influences in-country national state and societal actors (government, emerging philanthropists, individual donors) to support community philanthropy by creating favorable conditions to promote the power of local philanthropic giving as a form and driver of expression of opinion.
  3. Giving for Change challenges and changes the existing practices of international foundations, INGOs and bi- and multilateral donors in working with southern CSAs technical expertise roles.
