Education Cannot Wait – Multi-Year Resilience Program


This multi-year initiative is implemented from November 29, 2024, to November 29, 2027, with funding from Education Cannot Wait (ECW). The program is led by Save the Children International (SCI) and implemented in partnership with the Development Expertise Center (DEC). It aims to provide inclusive, quality education opportunities to crisis-affected children and youth—particularly internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, host communities, refugees, and children with disabilities—across targeted districts in the Amhara Region.

  • Target Groups: 58,961 children and youth (pre-primary, primary, and secondary school-aged girls and boys), including children with disabilities and TVET youth

    • Region: Amhara
    • Zones: North Shewa and North Wollo
    • Districts (Woredas): Angolalana Tera, Mojana Wedera, Tarmaber, Kewot, Guba Lafto, Raya Kobo, and Angot

Program Outcomes

  • Outcome 1: Increased access and retention of out-of-school girls and boys (including IDPs, returnees, host community members, refugees, and children with disabilities) in non-formal education, supported by positive, safe, and resilient communities
  • Outcome 2: Improved quality of holistic learning through innovative, evidence-based teaching and learning practices in safe and inclusive environments, including Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), leading to education-to-livelihood pathways
  • Outcome 3: Increased learner transition into formal education, vocational training, and employment pathways for improved livelihoods
  • Outcome 4: Strengthened federal and regional education emergency coordination mechanisms for streamlined response and program delivery
