Education cannot wait (ECW)

Background of the Project

Education Cannot Wait (ECW) –SEED (Safe Educational Environment Development) is  an education    emergency project response. It is funded By ECW through UNICEF and implemented by consortium led by Geneva Global and implemented by implementing partners. DEC has been implementing the Oromia region, East Wollega , Sasiga district portion  .

The goal of the program is improving learning through equitable access to resilient and quality education for emergency – affected children. Also the project has contribution from Genva Global – in name of Speed school program .

Objective of the project

  • Equitable access to safe, protective, and gender sensitive (preprimary and primary) learning environments for emergency-affected girls, boys, incl. CWDs is increased.
  • Quality and relevance of education for emergency-affected girls, boys, CWDs is enhanced.
  • Retention and transition for emergency-affected girls and boys (including CWDs) is improved.

  • Children of preprimary school ( age 4-5  and age 6)
  • Children of primary school
  • Mothers groups
  • School teachers / facilitators
  • Girls

  • The project has  been implemented in Oromia region East Wollega , Sasiga district

Successes /Achievements

It address education emergency which is rare and unaccustomed  before ; and promotes education even in time of crisis

Innovation

Speed school – Is an accelerated learning program for children out of school, especially for children 9-14. Condensed curriculum has been developed and used to make children asquint necessary learning outcomes and passed to their level age classes after examined for set competency
